Parsley seeds – saved from my own plants – sown a couple of weeks ago – have sprung into life.
Elsewhere – everything vulnerable has been cloched as the weathermen predicted frost – it never happened.
The weather is still incredible for the time of year – encouraging growth. Even the stump of a tomato plant has started re-growing.
I do wish you would stop posting about all your seedlings etc, you make me feel totally inadequate and useless.

DeleteWe have our first frost of the year today. About a month later than usual.
ReplyDeleteI spoke too soon - opened the curtains to frost here too.
DeleteWe've had out frosts which usually start in the first week of November so bang on cue,
ReplyDeleteNever thought of sowing parsely now.
We had a slight frost last week but nothing since. You should have lots of fresh parsley for next year.
ReplyDeleteSeedlings are appearing all over the plot, but It's been wet here and there was a frost last night so it's set to change by the look of it. Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteHow exciting to see new green shoots sprouting forth Elaine. When will you transfer the parsley to the outer world? I thought that there might be a frost this morning when I opened the curtains but it was not to be.
ReplyDelete"A Woman of the Soil" has been included in our Sites To See #410. Be assured that we hope this helps to point many new visitors in your direction.

Just goes to show that seeds will germinate when the conditions are right, and that's not always when the seed packets tell us! You'll be knee deep in parsley next spring. We had our first frost here yesterday - the courgette plants have finally stopped producing fruit...
ReplyDeleteI hope that it all grows well for you! xx
ReplyDeleteI think the mild weather is confusing the plants, I have iris bulbs coming up and tomatoes have self seeded from dropped fruit and are an few inches high. We are frost free as well, I do hope we have a mild winter.xxx
ReplyDeleteLucky you, still green in the garden.
ReplyDeleteWe've got snow!

ReplyDeleteSame as you I covered most of my late veggies (a couple of weeks ago). We've had 1 frost, overnight last Saturday but no damage not even to lettuce which is still growing well. I thought you had finished posting on this blog, glad to see you haven't. Goes to show how busy I've been this year down my plots.
ReplyDeleteI did finish for a while but thought I would carry on as and when I had anything to report - but I guess it will go quiet again over winter.
DeleteI've taken to growing a few wee plants inside, as winter roars outside, although my little greenhouse is still some alive with a couple little things...or at least the last time I looked!
ReplyDeleteI have recently moved home and gained a greenhouse - my first ever. But I know nothing about how and when to start. As a starter, do you have a heater in your greenhouse, please? As I live in Cornwall (where it's probably a few degrees warmer than Leicestershire, my home county as it happens!) I'm tempted to plant a few seedlings like yours even though it's now January. I'm hoping that by following your blog, I might get some ideas for my new garden and greenhouse. I've already made a note of some definite flower choices for the warmer weather.
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteNo I don't use a heater in the greenhouse - you could start sowing some hardy annuals now if you want to get going - they may take a while to germinate though. I usually sow a few tomato seeds in February in a propagator in the house but am always cautious as to putting them in the greenhouse without some sort of protection.
ReplyDeleteHave a Great Day!!
I'm glad I came here your blog is motivational and inspiring. I tried to write a post in my blog about my first garden and hope I justified my garden in my blog post.
I can take many other ideas from your blog to apply in my garden.
Can you check my garden and comment if I am lacking something. It will be a great pleasure
thanks ...
