I planted three Sungold tomato plants in a trough. Blight struck and they withered. Two tomatoes hung on.
They are still hanging on as the troughs haven't been cleared yet. Poor little things. Destined never to be eaten but serving as a reminder of the summer that never was.
You've reminded me I must get the seed catalogue out.
ReplyDelete2013 has to be better. Doesn't it??
Sungold - After past experience this was the only variety I grew this year. Although they were missed by the dreaded blight they were slow and are currently ripening on the kitchen windowsill. There's enough ready for half a dozen for lunch on a daily basis.
ReplyDeleteI had Sungold this year as well. I thought they were nice, but maybe not THAT Nice. They are supposedly the best ever tomatoes, but I don't agree. I had a good start, but mine also got blight towards the end of the season. Your photo is good though - very dramatic!
ReplyDeleteSo sad - poor little things will feel unloved!
ReplyDeleteNext year...! Flighty xx
ReplyDeleteA sad tale Elaine - but here's to next year and a bumper harvest!
ReplyDeleteI grubbed-up all my Tom plants about two months ago, and dumped them on a non-compost pile. I noticed just yesterday that there are still lots of Toms clinging on, and probably edible!
ReplyDeleteah so sad those toms (as we call them in this house) look so forlorn :-(
ReplyDeleteAwe! They still look good! I hope next summer's weather is better for you my dear.
ReplyDeleteHugs Rosemary...xo
A very well summed up Summer. My last 5 toms are languishing in the fridge keeping warm?
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed for next year...
